Monterey County Triathlon

Runners Unite!

Triathletes and distance runners must mark their calendars and plan to participate in the Monterey County Triathlon at Pacific Grove this September 11-13. For the beginner to elite triathlete, there is both an Olympic distance triathlon and a sprint distance triathlon. There are also Fun Runs that cover 5K and 10K distances. The fun begins on Friday the 11th, where participants can register, check out the course layout, attend clinics, and shop for triathlon-related merchandise.

Regarded as one of the most scenic in the world, the mornings are cool and misty, average high temperatures in the mid-70s, flat spaces for biking and gently rolling hills for running. The course begins with the well-known “Kelp Crawl” at Lover’s Point. Cycling runs along the coast, and running also offers coastal views from Lover’s Point to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Triathlete teams must have at least 2 participants. The Olympic course is Saturday with the Sprint course on Sunday. Awards ceremonies will be held after each event. Elite triathletes in the Olympic course will be competing for a $20,000.00 cash purse. Registration fees range from $75.00 for Youth to $200.00 for adults to compete in both triathlons.

Both Fun Runs happen on Sunday the 13th and start at Lover’s Point Park. This is a run/walk geared for family participation. Children 12 and under run/walk for free!
