The organizers of the 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am want you to “Watch The Best In Golf Play On The Best In Golf”. Of course, you already know that’s true! Last year’s Pro-Am champion was Brandt Snedeker. Would you like to know what’s in store for this year? Here’s an overview to pique your interest.
Exciting additions, past events, and changes continue to be announced on the site’s main website, so check it often, but here are some recent developments:
- The GREY GOOSE 19th Hole Lounge. In previous years, this area required a special ticket. This year, all of-age spectators—you must be 21 years or older—will have access the Lounge. Great news, as this hilltop location overlooks holes 6 – 8. Specialty cocktails will be offered for purchase.
- Award for Gold Certified & Awarded for Green Excellence. The Council for Responsible Sport has awarded the Pro-Am Gold Certification for Outstanding Practices in Event and Venue Resource Recovery.
- Great Charity Shout-Outs. On February 10, 2015, the 49ers and Giants battled it out in a Chevron Shoot-Out. Record crowds attended the event. The 49ers won, by the way, by raising a total of $40,000.
The Pro-Am’s mission is “To stage the world’s premier PGA TOUR pro-am that brings the community together with global leaders in sports, entertainment and industry to raise charitable funds which create opportunities for success.” Have you been in the past? Would you agree? A list of who’s who will be featured at this year’s event, including professionals Ricky Barnes, Roberto Castro, and Cameron Percy. On the celebrity side of the fence, you’ll see Wayne Gretzky, Toby Keith, Mark Wahlberg, and several more.
The schedule gets underway on Monday, February 8, with an all-day practice round on all three courses. That round is closed to the public, but the ones on the next two days are open, and include a Chevron Shoot-Out as well as a Celebrity Challenge. First Round is on Thursday, February 11 at all three courses. Activities take place every day, but the Final Round is on Sunday, February 14.
Every year when this event rolls around, I remember my time playing as an amateur in 1996 and 1997. What a great experience!
