Going to a new tasting room is like going on a blind date – you really don’t know what to expect, but you have high hopes. I was walking through Carmel the other day and came across Albatross Ridge on Dolores Street between Ocean and 6th. The finishes are stunning. You drop down into a beautifully designed contemporary space with clean lines and full of light. Carmel stone complements the modern touches perfectly maintaining a very classic Carmel feel.
Albatross Ridge
I like Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, but I was looking for something different – not the typical California Chard’s and Pinot’s. Something more European with rich flavors that I know very little about and am eager to learn more. The staff was warm and welcoming, and I enjoyed a quick tasting of both wines that will absolutely bring me back for more. I bought a bottle for a client. It’s not the least expensive place in town – their lower end was about $45 – but for special occasions I now know where to look for something refreshing and new. It’s also a great place to taste if you’re looking for a fun afternoon in town.
