There are plenty of dog-friendly places to go and things to do in and around Carmel. For some firsthand recommendations, The Heinrich Team’s mascot, Puddin’, is happy to share some of her favorites:

Woof, woof!

Or, if you’re a human companion, hello! I’m Puddin’, proud pup to Ben and Carole Heinrich, and the local expert when it comes to everything dog-friendly around here. While my owners may know a thing or two about the local real estate, I know where to get some of the best patio treats or where you can find the softest beach sand to roll around in. Ben and Carole rescued me from Peace of Mind, an incredible place full of other dogs eager to meet their new owner!

Here are my picks for a tail-wagging good time in Carmel and the surrounding area.

Beaches

Carmel Beach

You can be off leash at this beach but will need up-to-date vaccinations and your license.

Carmel River State Beach

On a short leash you can watch the birds in the bird sanctuary, but be careful of the strong tides of the water.

Garland Ranch Regional Park

Stay within immediate voice control of your owner or on a short leash when you visit this park.

Garrapata State Park Beach

There is a strong surf at this beach, so it is best to stay on a short leash when you come here.

Parks

Carmel Meadows

You can freely enjoy two miles of beachside trails and bluffs here.

Carmel Walks

Keep on a short leash and you can take a walking tour of downtown Carmel, and be sure to check out the dog-friendly stops along the way.

Mission Trail Park

The mulched trails here are easier on the older dogs, and the 35 acres of woodland are a beautiful backdrop for a walk.

Restaurants

Basil Seasonal Dining

Locally sourced dishes are served with seasonal California ingredients which can be enjoyed on their dog-friendly patio.

Bistro 211

Healthy dining for humans and canines alike can be found here. There is a full dog-friendly menu with meals served on frisbees.

Carmel Belle

Dogs are welcome on the patio here, with treats and bowls on the menu, too.

Casanova

Two dog-friendly patios at Casanova means more dogs can relax while their owners enjoy the restaurant’s fine French and Italian cuisine.

Forge in the Forest

This restaurant has been consistently voted Best Outdoor Dining, and both you and your owner can enjoy a meal here.

From Scratch

All-day breakfast and a dog-friendly patio makes From Scratch a perfect destination at any time.

La Dolce Vita

This Italian restaurant boasts a mouthwatering menu and a great dog-friendly patio.

YEAST OF EDEN

A new restaurant with an assortment of beer choices from the owners of Alvarado street brewery.

Hotels

Svendsgaards’s Inn

If you are a well-groomed and vaccinated non-aggressive breed, you are welcome here. Dogs may be an extra fee, but they are given treats and provided blankets, food, water, a crate, and a leash. This Inn also has pet-sitting services.

Carmel Garden Inn

Pet-friendly rooms are available here, with a fee and limit of two pets of any size. Your canine companion is welcomed with a bed, sheet, water bowl, and treats.

Cypress Inn

For a fee, this Inn allows you to bring up to three dogs with you on your stay. They are welcome throughout the property, even in the lounge. Pet necessities and pet-sitting options are available as well. Cypress Inn is my personal favorite–especially at Yappy Hour…woof woof! With a five paws rating.

Carmel Valley Ranch

With no limit on the size or number of pets, this Inn truly welcomes all animal companions. All of the rooms here are pet-friendly, as are the trails, the outdoor restaurant, and evening smores at the pool side firepit.

Bernardus Lodge and Spa

Bernardus is a perfectly relaxing spot for both animals and their owners. There is no place better for the ultimate in dog beds and special treats.
