Mickey Muennig

Mickey Muennig is one of the most iconic architects of our time. After attending the University of Oklahoma where he studied under Bruce Goff, Mickey discovered the Esalen institute, moved to Big Sur, and became a pioneer of environmentally conscious organic architecture. Using beautiful woods and steel to create warm natural tones, and floor to ceiling glass walls with incredible scale to optimize view, Mickey designed some of the most stunning coastal properties along the rugged coast of California. Many of his projects do not have right angles, a rare quality sought after by a diverse clientele seeking an escape in beautiful Big Sur. One of Mickey’s most noteworthy projects is the Post Ranch Inn, perched on a bluff off Highway 1 with striking glass walls overlooking the Pacific.

Mickey unfortunately passed away recently, and his personal residence on Partington Road where he lived for many years has now become available for purchase. Upon entering the private, 30 acre estate, you are greeted with astounding 180 degree views that offer the most spectacular sunsets in complete solitude. Multiple living spaces include Mickey’s one bedroom passive solar house built into the mountain side, a small caretaker’s house designed by Mickey’s daughter, and a studio with panoramic views of the coastline. It is a rare opportunity, a magical property with rich history, and the epitome of Big Sur living.
