We recently discovered how impactful a quick getaway can be. Ideally, one where you don’t have to drive too far to get to your destination, and while you could comfortably stay two nights one night might be just enough.

About 25 miles north of Monterey in Watsonville, CA, you’ll find the Sunset State Beach campground – a wonderful place to camp conveniently located about 30 minutes from where we call home. We’ve been waiting for the weather to warm up to go camping, and decided a couple weeks ago to take a spontaneous trip! We packed our tent and some cooking essentials and hit the road.

Shortly after arriving and setting up camp, we decided to head to the beach so we could watch the sunset. It was incredible, and we were so excited to take the 2 minute drive back to our campsite to light a fire and cook a great dinner. There is nothing quite like preparing dinner in the dark and enjoying it by the fire. The campground has great amenities – bathrooms, water, fire pits, and the sites are very spacious. We will definitely be returning!
